Morocco

Leaving Salisbury, we took the overnight ferry from Portsmouth to Le Havre and drove south through a very cold France, Andorra and Spain. We crossed the Straits of Gibraltar from Algeciras to Ceuta – a Spanish autonomous city on the north African coast – and then drove into Morocco.

We stepped back in time.

The fields of northern Morocco in early Spring were filled with wild flowers.

Our visit to the Medieval, walled city of Fes was a highlight.

We wandered the winding and teeming streets, and visited the Bou Inania Madrasa,

and a traditional, and very smelly, tannery

  1. Yes – I do remember Morocco like that, and even earlier (around 1980). You were lucky to be there when the flowers were out, it is only for a short time every year! The rest of the year, dry and dusty. Do you remember the huge ‘parkings’ next to the market, where everyone left their donkeys? It never occurred to me then to take a picture, and I guess by now this doesn’t exist anymore……

  2. Does anyone make use of the flowers I wonder? I’ve heard good reports of Morocco, including just yesterday from a female friend who went to Marrakesh with two girlfriends. Looked like a good start in Africa.
